Alumnus answers call for students impacted by devastating pandemic

About the author: John Urick graduated from Williamsport Area Community College in 1974, earning an Associate of Applied Science in forestry. While working as a drafter/surveyor with Sanders & Thomas, Inc., he earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Drexel University in 1987. He became a licensed professional engineer in 1997, specializing in highway and bridge projects. His most notable work was as the consultant team project manager for the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation Project, which includes a 4,500-foot-long bridge over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, currently under construction between Sunbury and Lewisburg. His PennDOT counterpart, Margaret Jackson, PE, is also a Penn College graduate. A conservation volunteer and avid hiker, John has hiked trails in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Wyoming, Death Valley, and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Peru. He and his wife recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. They enjoy spending time with their two children and four grandchildren.
